Microblogging, will it replace emails?

Posted By Afif Fattouh on September 21st, 2009

Microblogging is a new form of communication in which users can describe their current status in short posts distributed by instant messages, mobile phones, email or the Web. Twitter, a perfect example of microblogging, has seen a lot of growth since it launched in October, 2006.

A user can updates her post by describing her status, opinion or activity within a limit of 140 characters, hence the term “Micro”blogging! Now here’s the fun part, other users in the “social network” can follow each other’s activities. They can even subscribe to an RSS feed and receive the latest updates of the people they follow.
You’d be surprised who you can follow on Twitter, even cats! Seriously, cats are doing it, check this out.

In the business world, all sorts of business now have Twitter accounts. The network is helping businesses grow and attract potential customers all over the globe. Musicians, artists, athletes, scientists, students, etc. the list goes on, they are all “tweeting”.

Now here’s the question, will people ever rely on “tweets” rather than the old service of emailing?
